Apple Fries
For the Apple Fries:
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sparkling water or club soda
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the Caramel Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions:
Prepare the Apples:
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, fry-shaped pieces.
Make the Batter:
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually pour in the sparkling water, stirring until the batter is smooth.
Heat the Oil:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Apples:
Dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off.
Carefully place the battered apple slices into the hot oil and fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the apple fries using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
In a shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
Toss the warm apple fries in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
Serve:
Serve the apple fries warm with caramel dipping sauce on the side.
